Learn from this book about going green and saving money.
Going green is the current trend. Be it manufacturers or consumers, everyone is becoming aware of the significance of this trend. The damage done to the environment has resulted in a high level of pollution, drastic climate changes and has endangered habitats of flora and fauna. We have now realized that living in harmony with nature is the only way to sustain the ecosystem. By going green, we can gain financially! Lets see how we can save money by going green.
- Water consumption: Drinking water is a scarce commodity in many parts of the globe today. Metering your water consumption not only allows you to monitor the amount of water used, but also enables you to pay money only for the quantity of water consumed.
- Insulation: Insulation in ceilings, lofts and the floor can save you quite a lot on the heating costs during cold times of the year. Different types of insulation such as ‘Cavity Wall Insulation’ and ‘Hot water cylinder Insulation’ are available. You can choose the one best suited to your home.
- Appliance Usage: Switching off air conditioners, heaters and other appliances is not only eco-friendly but also cuts down your electricity bill. Reduction in heater temperatures will also considerably impact electricity consumption.
- Transportation: Transportation and fuel costs are something worth paying attention to. Eco-friendly fuel options, switching to bicycles as an alternate mode of transport, car-pooling, using public transport etc., not only reduce pollution but also the costs associated with commuting.
- Alternate Energy Sources: Alternate energy sources can be tested out in communities or individual households. Solar powered heating, cooking and lighting are cost efficient in the long run, especially in regions with a lot of sunshine.
- Energy Saving Products: Use of energy efficient products
can in turn reduce electricity consumption. CFL bulbs, re-chargeable batteries and other energy efficient products such as air conditioners and washing machines will help you save money.
- Re-vamped Processes: Re-designed manufacturing processes and use of green raw material helps industries reduce cycle time and energy consumption and at the same time produce eco-friendly products. This however, may not be applicable to all industries.
- Biodegradable / Organic Products: Use of products that are biodegradable and use of organic products will help to keep the earth green. An increase in the green trend has caused a decline in the prices of such products, now making them affordable and often more cost effective.
- Interior Design: Home and office interiors designed to take advantage of natural light, sunshine and ventilation result in considerable savings on artificial lighting and heating. Alternatively ceiling and pedestal fans can be used instead of air-conditioners wherever possible.
- Efficient Product Design: Manufactures have come up with products that are efficiently designed to consume less power and also generate less heat. The function of these products is also highly enhanced so that fewer units of the products are sufficient to do the job. For example electrical switches, Servers used in the IT industry etc. Users of such efficiently designed products
will eventually benefit from the cost-effectiveness of these units.
By creating and using products that are environment friendly, not only do we get to contribute to the well being of nature but also monitor and minimize our expenses.
