Save Money and the Environment by Turning Things Off That You Are Not Using
Learn from this book about going green and saving money.
As we have electrical appliances in so many rooms in our homes, many are left charging when not in use. Examples include chargers for toothbrushes, cell phones, vacuum cleaners, bluetooth headsets, iPods, laptops, and MP3 players. As you can see, the list goes on. The energy charging these devices consistently costs you money and continues to drain energy from the environment.
Most TVs, radios, stereos, computers, and microwaves continue to drain power when plugged in but not in use. It may be obvious from the LED or other display. Or it may only be obvious when you look in the open vents in the back of your TV and see it is on. Or, it may only be obvious to you that you touch the back of the TV and feel it is still warm even in the morning. Think about it... when you use your remote control to turn on the TV, it has to be on and ready to receive the signal.
Another idea is to turn off your iron a few minutes before you are done using it. You can turn down your heat in your home 1/2 hour before bed.
Lights are a big item to turn off when not using. Here you'll save money on your energy bill, you'll extend the life of your bulbs and save more money there, and you'll help the environment by draining less power.
These techniques work. Yes, you may be one person, or one household, but think of the other people reading this Website. Think of the people you can let know to do these things as well, and with that we have much more hope of saving both money and helping the environment.
